Powerful Home Remedies for Reducing Hair Loss
1 - Meals
Now, this is easy! Hair thrives on protein, iron, zinc, and vitamin B12. Get them from lean meats, leafy greens, nuts, beans, and fish. (These 7 speedy fish dinners will put you on the right track.)
2 - Coconut Milk
Coconut milk is one of the richest sources to nourish the tissues of hair. Coconut milk can be obtained by grinding the grated coconut and squeezing its juice (milk). This is a natural home remedy to prevent hair loss.
3 - Massage
You're halfway there every time you shampoo: massaging your head in the shower improves blood flow to the scalp. This means a better environment for hair growth, but it also aids the penetration of any treatment shampoos you use.
4 - Aloe Vera
Pure aloe gel or aloe juice can be applied directly to the scalp. This can treat hair loss, which is caused due to dry or infected scalp. After massaging the scalp with juice or gel, wait for a few hours and wash it away with lukewarm water. Use of aloe vera with triphala powder for 3-6 months also treats hair loss.
5 - Styling
It's the easiest fix you never considered. Hair dryers and irons, especially if you already color, can cause breakage and thinning, so reduce your use however you can.
6 - Oil Massage
Regular massage of hair and scalp with lukewarm oil stimulates the blood flow. Coconut oil is considered the best among other oils. Some other recommended oils are olive, jojoba, mustard, castor and almond.
7 - Stress Relief
Just breathe—seriously, it could help! Both sudden and chronic stress can halt hair growth. If you've been through a challenging experience (divorce, job change), hair should grow back. If you're under constant pressure, master meditation—easier said than done, but your hair will thank you. (Find the meditation style that matches your personality, here.)
8 - Indian Lilac (Neem)
Neem is a plant, which is ornamented with all the essential qualities. It is anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-diabetic, sedative, and antiseptic in nature. It is not only useful in diseases but is also an excellent home remedy for hair loss. Boil leaves of neem in water until the water remains half. Let it cool and wash your hair once in a week with this water.
9 - Hormone Help
If it's serious, consider an Rx. Some women are genetically predisposed to female-pattern hair loss, and birth control pills can suppress overproduction of male hormones. At menopause, thinning increases; if you're on hormone therapy, it may minimize hair loss.
10 - Onion and Garlic
Both onion and garlic are a rich source of sulphur, and they help in the growth of hair. To apply onion, you need to chop it finely and extract out the juice. Massage the scalp well with this juice and wash off with a mild shampoo.
Onion can also be used with honey as a hair mask.
Garlic can be applied on the scalp by boiling it with coconut oil. Massage the scalp with this potion, two to three times a week, for best results.
11 - Lime and Black Pepper Seeds
Seeds of lime and black pepper, when ground finely and applied on the scalp, prove to be a very good cure for averting hair loss.
12 - Geranium or Rosemary Leaves
Rinsing the hair with water, in which, geranium or rosemary leaves have been boiled, is a good natural remedy for curing hair loss at home.
Rosemary herb is believed to have properties, which can keep hair healthy and luscious. Mix one part of rosemary oil with two parts of almond oil. Massaging the scalp with it for twenty minutes a day can prove to be beneficial. This is an excellent remedy for hair loss in women.
It is important to know about hair loss
Hair loss, also known as alopecia or baldness, refers to a loss of hair from part of the head or body. Typically at least the head is involved. The severity of hair loss can vary from a small area to the entire body. Typically inflammation or scarring is not present. Hair loss in some people causes psychological distress.
Common types include: male-pattern hair loss, female-pattern hair loss, alopecia areata, and a thinning of hair known as telogen effluvium. The cause of male-pattern hair loss is a combination of genetics and male hormones, the cause of female pattern hair loss is unclear, the cause of alopecia areata is autoimmune, and the cause of is telogen effluvium is typically a physically or psychologically stressful event. Telogen effluvium is very common following pregnancy.
Less common causes of hair loss without inflammation or scarring include the pulling out of hair, certain medications including chemotherapy, HIV/AIDS, hypothyroidism, and malnutrition including iron deficiency. Causes of hair loss that occurs with scarring or inflammation include fungal infection, lupus erythematosus, radiation therapy, and sarcoidosis. Diagnosis of hair loss is partly based on the areas affected.
Treatment of pattern hair loss may simply involve accepting the condition. Intervention that can be tried include the medications minoxidil or finasteride, and hair transplant surgery. Alopecia areata may be treated by steroid injections in the affected area but these need to be frequently repeated to be affective. Hair loss is a common problem. Pattern hair loss by age 50 affects about half of males and a quarter of females. About 2% of people develop alopecia areata at some point in time.
